Closeout

Last Thursday was our closeout walkthrough, and Friday was the last day of the project on our original schedule. There are only a few delays and touchups, and from what I’ve heard from others, this is extremely minor. I guess home remodels are famous for going much longer than scheduled, so I’m feeling pretty good about where we are.

Other than the walkthrough, Thursday was also the day that our appliances were reinstalled. In the case of the microwave oven, that’s a new install. The refrigerator/freezer and oven/stove are operating normally, and so is the microwave oven, though it still needs to have the exhaust fan vented to the outside. The dishwasher is not yet operational, and I had to unplug it so that it would stop beeping. The garbage disposal is installed, but does not yet appear to be hooked up to the on/off switch to actually use it.

More things were added to the bathroom. We now have towel rods, hooks for bathrobes and such, the toilet paper holder, and the grab bar in the shower.

We don’t have our ceiling fans with lights yet. There will be four of those. We don’t have the two pendant lights over the kitchen peninsula yet. We have closet doors to be put back up, as well as knobs to be returned or installed on most of the doors, including a bit more hardware on the two pocket doors. We have a much longer list of little stuff, but those are the biggest items. After they have someone do a thorough cleaning tomorrow, I plan to start moving smaller furniture and stuff back in so we can really start living in the new space. I plan to check with Meadowlark tomorrow to see what areas we need to avoid “filling” so that nothing will get in the way of the work that remains to be done. Some smaller furniture has already been moved in, and we’ve been trying out the space a bit; ate some meals at our counter and watched some movies in our living room.

We have movers scheduled to move the big stuff back in on the 25th. Once that stuff is out of the garage, Meadowlark can do what will hopefully be the last item on the list, which is to put up drywall to partition the garage from the house attic space.
