We Have Walls

It’s been over a week since my last post, and that’s because we have been at one of the slower moving parts of the process. Rough electrical had to be finished up and inspections had to be made. We passed all of our inspections. There were a couple of notable things done in the last day or two of last week. One is that a wall needed to be “cut back,” making the entrance to the kitchen a little wider, so that the refrigerator door would be able to swing all of the way open, thus allowing the drawers inside to open. The other was that insulation was put into the peak of the ceiling where the drywall had been cut away.

But today was all about drywall. Well that, and early in the morning all of the wallpaper was removed. Today, in a flurry of activity, the walls went up. I’ve been told by others to expect this, but it’s still amazing to see that all of the walls (as far as I can tell) are up after a single day. There is still a bunch of drywall work to do—taping, mudding, and sanding—but now we can start to really see the new structure of our home coming into focus.

I’m expecting drywall all the rest of this week. I think sanding will start at the end of this week, and that’s the part that’ll kick up the most dust. They’ve given us plenty of ways to block the dust and filter the air, so I think we’ll be OK.
