Getting Started

This remodeling project started a while ago, but today I’m starting to blog about it. This is the second home improvement project we’ve done with Meadowlark. Obviously, we were very happy with the work they did on the exterior of our house, so now we have them doing the interior of… pretty much the entire main floor. Remodeling will focus on the primary bedroom, primary bathroom, and kitchen. The rest of the main floor will get a refresh with new paint and some new lighting.

The motivation for this project started back around the time we were having the exterior done, when we were thinking how nice it would be to have our main bedroom be on the main floor instead of the basement. We did use primary bedroom on the main floor occasionally in the winter to get away from the cold basement, but it felt a bit small. I had some ideas about how to make it a bit larger by grabbing some unused space from the neighboring bathroom, and we have handed those ideas to the folks at Meadowlark, and of course they have improved and expanded on those. Add to that the idea that I’ve long wanted to replace the rail between the kitchen and the dining room with a sort of breakfast bar, and we’re well on our way to a major remodeling.

Construction is set to begin on May 18, which is just 12 days away. We are extremely busy moving everything out of the main floor. A lot of stuff is getting junked or recycled, other stuff will be stored temporarily in the garage, and the rest will be moved into the basement, which is where we’ll be living for the 3 or so months of construction. As such, I probably won’t have much time to blog during this move, but hope to have lots more to say and pictures to post once construction begins.
