Flooring Begins

on: 6/30/2026

Yesterday, floor installation began. We were warned that it would be noisy, and I thought, “Surely not as noisy as the demolition was,” but I think it might have been noisier. It was the sound of what I think was a rotary sander/grinder removing the glue from the subfloor. Wow, what a racket. It truly terrified the cats.

But today was a much more normal noise level. They put down a sort of plywood underlayment in the kitchen and bathroom, plus the LVP (luxury vinyl plank) on top of that in the bathroom. They also installed nosing for the step down from the kitchen to the dining room. They were also examining some of the squeaks in our floor, so maybe they’ll be able to get rid of some of that.

I expect there will be more of the same tomorrow.

Something else that happened over the weekend is that we ordered some bar stools online. We want 3 to put on the dining room side of the kitchen peninsula, and we found these that we really like. They should arrive on Friday, but we won’t need to assemble them for quite some time yet.
